About Tandem Sewing Company
My mom was an avid sewist, and used her skills to bring joy into her life and the lives of others. She was always working on quilts for a neighbors new baby, or making prom dresses for my sisters and their friends. When I was eight years old, I asked my mom to teach me how to sew, and my first project was a beanbag. It wasn’t anything impressive, but I made, and my mom had taught me how. I continued sewing on and off for most of my life until 2021, where I decided I should try a challenge, and made my first shirt. It was by no means perfect, but it opened up the world of sewing to me. Since then, I have spent most of my weekends and evenings making clothing and bags for myself and friends.
In 2025, my vestibular system and my brain decided I had spent enough time looking at computer screens, and I was unable ot use a computer for more than a few hours a day without getting severe migraines and dizziness. I was unable to work, and even had to take a break form sewing. I had a few sewing machiens laying around that I wanted to take apart and tune up, so I signed up for classes from Sewing Doc Academy, and quickly became enamored with sewing machines, and found a new outlet to replace my previous computer-based job.
I have learned that I love working with my hands, problem solving issues with machines, and challenging myself to do things that can be kind of scary (like servicing a motor)! Most of all, I love being able to save beautiful, hard working machine that have proved their worth for longer than I’ve been alive – and keeping them from going to a landfill. I love sewing, and I love helping people learn how to sew and use these incredible machines.
About Tandem
When I started getting better at sewing, I decided I needed a logo and name to put on my clothing tags. My boyfriend and I fostered a dog we both loved, and wanted to honor our time with her by naming the company after her. She was a playful, sweet, and strong dog that brought so much joy to our home. Plus, that cute little snaggletooth and those endearing eyes!
